A little French update

19th March, 2011

In the two weeks since my last post, Lille have managed to retain their position atop the French table thanks to consecutive last-minute goals. First, on the 6th of March, Pierre-Alain Frau made the most of his five-minute cameo by putting the ball past Steve Mandanda in the Marseille goal and stretching the gap between the two clubs to four points. Then last week it was wunderkind Eden Hazard’s turn, with a strike at the death to deny Valenciennes a precious point. In the meantime Marseille ensured that not much was to change at the top by beating Rennes by two goals to nil.

Rennes face Lyon this week, well aware that the club from France’s second city may be keen to make up for their Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid and old boy Karim Benzema. Lille will travel to Brest, hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table.
