Tim Vickery on Giovanni Hernández
I’ve just spotted this article on Colombian playmaker Giovanni Hernández on the BBC’s football website. To be honest I haven’t read Mr Vickery’s blog for a while, largely because I find that his posts are generally disappointingly devoid of the keen understanding of the game he shows on the World Football Phone-In. There’s a bullet-point approach to much of what appears on the BBC’s webpages; I feel more like I’m reading a summary than anything approaching genuine analysis. That said, I was still keen to read this article on a man I remember sparkling in the 2001 edition of the Copa America, when Colombia, on home soil, waltzed their way to the title of champions of South America. Mr Vickery doesn’t answer too many questions, but it is at least to see a player of Hernández’s skill acknowledged in the European press. It’s a shame that we never got to see him at a World Cup or in the Champions League, stages his talent surely deserved to grace.
